Painter, set designer, costume designer, illustrator. He has worked for both official theatre (with Alessandro Fersen, Aldo Trionfo, Vittorio Gassman) and opera with productions also for La Scala and the Venice Biennale. Countless other productions for the opening of the Duse theatre in Genoa and “Molto rumore per nulla” directed by Franco Enriquez with whom he later founded the Compagnia dei Quattro, with Valeria Moriconi. He also collaborated with the Teatri Stabili of Trieste and Turin, where, with De Bosio, he produced the most important Goldonian and Ruzantian productions of his theatrical career. He has won many awards for ceramics and two Oscar nominations for his animated films: Rossini’s La gazza ladra and Pulcinella. Simoni Prize ‘A life for the theatre’, Ubu and theatre critics’ prize, honorary degree in architecture from the University of Genoa. Illustrator of many books, he received the ‘Grand Sorcier’ award for Collodi’s Pinocchio. His is a long career, studded with successes, magic and strokes of the theatre; a career that is difficult to recount. Only he can tell it with his fantastic, sensational, incomparable illustrations. Lele’s global importance led the City of Genoa to dedicate to him, inside a historic building in Porta Siberia in the Port, the Museo Luzzati that he himself curated and that now continues to exist thanks to the efforts of his right-hand man Sergio Noberini.
