Kaatje Vermeire was born on 9 August 1981 in Ghent, where she graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
In 2008 her first illustrated book, De vrouw en het jongetje (The Lady and the Child), was published and won the Boekenpluim prize. Her second book, The Things of Life, won her two awards (2010 and 2015) and was one of the 50 best picture books of 2013.
Known for her eclectic style, Kaatje disdains no technique, skilfully combining collage, engraving, painting, drawing and digital.
Dreamlike, sometimes surreal, the images with a strong visual and emotional impact that spring from this experimental courage are always full of details in which the reader can travel, get lost and find himself.
